As someone studying within the sector and constantly campaigning for improvements in it, even the mention and highlighting of the sector by the First Minister is amazing. Her praise for the Creative Industries makes me immensely proud to be contributing to this young, but fast-growing sector of our economy. What makes me prouder still, is the commitment to double the current amount of funding for the sector, specifically focusing on growth; screen development and production, from £10 Million to £20 Million.
This will go a long way in helping to build and promote local Scottish talent, encourage international talent into working in Scotland and making Scotland a world-wide hub of creativity and talent. This is also further advanced by the Scottish Government’s support for infrastructure projects like the Dundee Waterfront; the Scottish Film Studio in Edinburgh and the recently announced National Film and Television School in Glasgow.
But this is not to mention that there are still issues within our sector, especially in terms of branching out from the central belt. However, this strong backing of the Sector by the Scottish Government will definitely go a long way into helping the Creative Industries continue to be a key component of Scotland’s economy and culture.
